Wallace Child Care Bill Assisting Low-Income Families Becomes Law

09/01/2017

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Legislation passed by state Rep. Litesa Wallace, D-Rockford, restoring access to the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) for families that were eliminated under Governor Rauner’s changes to the program’s requirements was recently signed into law.

“Without access to proper child care, innocent children are unable to have all the basic necessities for a healthy start to their lives,” Wallace said. “This bill will help an additional 4,000-5,000 children overcome the difficulties put in place by a governor who is waging war against hard-working Illinois families.”

Wallace’s House Bill 3213 restores the Child Care Assistance Program to its earlier eligibility requirements for families pursuing higher education. The bill also allows for these families to continue to receive services regardless of any future changes to the program’s eligibility by the Governor’s Administration.

“The well-being of all children is a personal and legislative priority of mine,” Wallace said. “I am proud to have worked on a bill that will bring assistance to so many across the state.”
